55 Da Saul så David gå ut mot filisteren, sa han til Abner, hærens kommandør: "Abner, hvis sønn er denne unge mannen?" Og Abner sa: "Så sant du lever, konge, jeg vet ikke."

56 Kongen sa: "Undersøk hvis sønn den unge mannen er."

Så da David vendte tilbake etter å ha beseiret filisteren, tok Abner ham og brakte ham foran Saul med filisterens hode i hånden.

58 Saul sa til ham: "Hvis sønn er du, unge mann?" Og David sa: "Jeg er sønn av din tjener Isai fra Betlehem."
