5 Hun fødte enda en sønn og kalte ham Sela; det var i Kesib hun fødte ham.

6 Juda fant en kone til Er, sin førstefødte, og hennes navn var Tamar.

Men Er, Judas førstefødte, var ond i Herrens øyne, så Herren lot ham dø.

8 Da sa Juda til Onan: "Gå inn til din brors kone og oppfyll din plikt som svoger mot henne, for å oppreise din brors ætt."

9 Men Onan visste at ætten ikke ville bli hans; derfor lot han sin sæd gå til spille på jorden hver gang han hadde samkvem med sin brors kone, for å unngå å gi sin bror etterkommere.
