3 Men Joab sa:
"Måtte Herren legge til sitt folk hundre ganger så mange som de er!
Men, min herre kongen, er de ikke alle min herres tjenere?
Hvorfor søker min herre dette?
Hvorfor skulle han bringe skyld over Israel?"

4 Likevel, kongens ord seiret over Joab.
Så Joab dro av sted og gikk gjennom hele Israel,
og kom til Jerusalem.

Joab ga tallet på folketellingen av hele folket til David.
Og hele Israel var 1 100 000 menn som dro sverd,
og Juda var 470 000 menn som dro sverd.

6 Men han talte ikke Levi og Benjamin blant dem,
fordi kongens befaling var avskyelig for Joab.

7 Gud var misfornøyd med denne handlingen,
så Han brakte trøbbel over Israel.
