The Bible was translated from Hebrew and Greek. Sometimes different translations use different words, and then it can help to look at the original word. Word study on Bible Compass shows each word in the original text, with pronunciation and a short explanation.
One word, several meanings
Most words have more than one meaning, in every language. What a word means is decided by the context. The lexicon shows a selection of the meanings, not an answer key.
An example
In John 21:15–17 Jesus asks Peter three times whether he loves him. In the original text they use two different words for love. Some explain the difference a lot, others think it does not mean much. Look at the verse yourself, and see where the words are used elsewhere.
Three tips
Do not build a whole doctrine on one word. See where the word is used elsewhere by tapping it. And remember that the definitions are English and short, so they are an aid, not an answer.
