6 Igjen gjorde israelittene det som var ondt i Herrens øyne. De tilbad Baalene og Astarotene, samt gudene til Aram, Sidon, Moab, ammonittene og filisterne. De forlot Herren og sluttet å tjene Ham.
7 Herrens vrede flammet opp mot Israel, og Han overgav dem til filisterne og ammonittene.
Det året undertrykte og knuste de israelittene. I atten år undertrykte de alle israelittene øst for Jordan i Gilead, amorittenes land.
9 Ammonittene krysset også Jordan for å føre krig mot Juda, Benjamin og Efraims hus, og forårsaket stor nød for Israel.
10 Israelittene ropte til Herren og bekjente: “Vi har syndet mot Deg ved å forlate vår Gud og tjene Baalene.”
