16 Jonadabs, sønn av Rekab, etterkommere har utført det bud deres stamfar ga dem, men dette folket har ikke lyttet til meg.’
17 Derfor, dette sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: ‘Se, jeg bringer over Juda og alle Jerusalems innbyggere all den ulykke jeg har uttalt mot dem, fordi jeg talte til dem, men de lyttet ikke; jeg kalte på dem, men de svarte ikke.’"
Da sa Jeremias til rekabittenes hus: "Dette sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: ‘Fordi dere har adlydt Jonadab, deres stamfars bud, og har holdt alle hans instrukser og gjort alt han befalte dere,
19 derfor sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: ‘Jonadab, sønn av Rekab, skal aldri mangle en etterkommer til å stå for mitt åsyn alltid.’"
