24 Israel slo ham med sverdets egg og tok hans land i eie fra Arnon til Jabbok, så langt som ammonittene, for ammonittenes grense var befestet.
25 Israel inntok alle amorittenes byer og bosatte seg i dem, inkludert Hesjbon og alle dens omkringliggende bosetninger.
Hesjbon var byen til Sihon, amorittenes konge, som hadde kjempet mot den tidligere kongen av Moab og tatt all hans land fra ham så langt som Arnon.
27 Derfor sier de som taler i ordspråk: «Kom til Hesjbon og la den bli gjenoppbygd; la Sihons by bli gjenopprettet.
28 For ild gikk ut fra Hesjbon, en flamme fra Sihons by; den fortærte Ar av Moab, herrene av Arnons høyder.
