19 På den tiden kunne ingen smed finnes i hele Israels land, for filistrene hadde sagt: "Ellers kan hebreerne lage seg sverd eller spyd."
20 Så hele Israel gikk ned til filistrene, hver for å slipe sin plogjern, sin hakke, sin øks eller sin hakke.
Prisen var to tredjedeler av en sjekel for sliping av plogjern, hakker, høygaffel og økser, og for å sette på piggene.
22 Så på slagets dag ble verken sverd eller spyd funnet i hånden på noen av folket som var med Saul og Jonatan, men de fantes bare hos Saul og hos Jonatan, hans sønn.
23 Filisternes garnison rykket ut til passet ved Mikmas.
