14 De sa til dem: "Vi kan ikke gjøre en slik ting—å gi vår søster til en mann som er uomskåret ville være en skam for oss.
15 Vi vil samtykke til dere bare på denne betingelsen: at dere blir som oss ved å omskjære alle deres menn.
Da vil vi gi dere våre døtre og ta deres døtre for oss selv. Vi vil bo blant dere og bli ett folk.
17 Men hvis dere ikke vil gå med på å bli omskåret, vil vi ta vår søster og gå."
